  Anarchy Online - MMORPG's Revisited
Last year I did an article about Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG's), and why I decided they sucked. At the time I was playing the Lineage II beta, and hardly enjoying it at all. I have a pretty short attention span, so I mostly ran around htiting stuff with the same repetitive magic spells, sitting down to recharge, and occasionally killing the loser trying to kill me.

During that experience, I noticed people who just sat around and tried to con people out of their items. I also saw people who hung around outside the town gates trying to entice newbies to get into a fight so they could get an easy kill. It wasn't very fun, and it definitely wasn't role-playing, certainly not with some fourteen year old talking about how "skool suked 2day".

On to the point of this though...

I'm trying out another MMORPG, this time Anarchy Online. I'm playing it for free since they decided they were desperate enough for the crowd, or they thought they were doing well enough that they would be able to entice others to pay for the expansion pack.

It isn't working very well. I've played the game for several hours now, but I've been bored most of it. Using my pee shooter to kill the local fauna isn't very exciting. Trying to enhance my weapons is too complicated, and the only things I do like are the bathing suits I can buy. Unfortunately, the really good looking ones are far too expensive for me to ever afford, considering the time I put into the game. I can't even really say I'm putting time into the game. When I have Anarchy Online up, I'm usually doing something else too. Thank goodness it runs in a window! For instance, right now I'm sitting down regaining my health and "nano" points... and typing this up! The one time I was excited about playing was when my friend said he'd join me, but we never found each other even though we were in the exact same area. Turns out the game has different "dimensions" for certain areas when it's overloaded. So much for playing with your friends... you have to be lucky enough to find them first!

Not much of a game if you can play it and write an article at the same time... or even play another game while you play it! I'll do a review of it sometime soon. It's not the worst MMORPG I've ever played, but it certainly goes a long way to proving that MMORPG's aren't my thing, even though I enjoy regular RPG's like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. Alright, well back to the game now, I'll wander around for a little bit, maybe get killed, and then go to bed.

Edit: Instead, I wandered around for a bit, someone suggested playing Half Life 2: Deathmatch, so I decided to do that instead.
